Dr Jedda Crabtree,
Clinical Psychologist
Experienced clinical psychologist and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist. I provide a space for people to develop and grow, to find something in themselves that feels more stable, alive and engaged.
I am an AHPRA registered Clinical Psychologist and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist. My training was undertaken at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) where I completed a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) with Honours and a Professional Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. I have over 15 years of experience working in mental health, and have a special interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy values the shared experience between the therapist and the patient. Therapy can help you to better manage difficult feelings, and to bear normal experiences of suffering in life. Often therapy leads to a greater self-understanding and curiosity about your human qualities, some of which, can be difficult to confront on your own.
Some people are eager to engage in therapy, for others it can be a daunting prospect. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to talk about beginning therapy.
What I offer
I offer individual psychotherapy sessions to adults, both online and in-person. Some examples of difficulties people come to therapy for:
Frustration with marital or family dynamics
Difficulties managing anger
Depression or persistent flat/low mood
Uncertainty with career choices or problems in the workplace
Identity confusion
Persistent anxiety or feelings of dread and fear
Adjusting and coping with overwhelming life transitions
Grief and loss
I also work with those who are seeking to explore themselves and their experiences more deeply. Perhaps you have noticed unhelpful repetitive patterns in relationships, or you’re wanting to find a greater sense of enjoyment and meaning in life.
COMMON QUS.
-
The initial session can be the hardest for some people. Often going to therapy has been thought about for a long time and the need has built up to a pressure point. You can share as much or as little as you want, I will be guided by you. I will likely ask some questions, for example about your past experiences and also what you’d like to get out of the therapy. There are no right answers and you do not have to come prepared. It is a space for you to bring what you would like to share and that will likely be different for different sessions.
-
My fee is typically $240. Fees may vary depending on the circumstances and will be discussed in the initial phone call.
With a Mental Health Care Plan you will receive a Medicare rebate of $146.25 per session. With a Chronic Disease Management Plan you will receive approximately $60 Medicare Rebate. Note - these cannot be used for the same session.
Some private health funds have levels of cover that include some cover for clinical psychology sessions also.
-
You do not need a referral to access psychology services however, if you seek out a doctors referral for a Better Access Mental Health Care Plan you are able to receive a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session, for ten sessions per year.
-
Confidentiality is one of the most important factors of therapy. All information shared in session as well as your attendance in therapy is kept in the strictest confidence. There are rare circumstances that limit confidentiality for psychologists and these can be explored in session.
-
The length of therapy often depends on whether you would like to work on a specific problem or if you would like to explore change of more difficult patterns, and develop deeper self-awareness and growth.
My therapeutic approach is aimed to treat the unique difficulties and goals of the individual who sees me.
-
I provide individual psychotherapy for adults under a fee for services structure. This might be a brief agreed period of therapy or a more open ended arrangement. This would be discussed in the early sessions.
I do not work with couples, children or families directly.
